How scoring works

A tool or service earns points on criteria such as price, pricing transparency, bank matching, invoicing, receipts and customer sentiment. Which criteria apply depends on the list, and each criterion has a weight. The points add up to a score, and the rank follows the score.

The accounting software ranking uses the accounting rubric, and sales tax tools use the sales tax rubric.

Restaurant accounting software uses the café and restaurant rubric, and paid bookkeeping help uses the services rubric.

What earns credit

Each criterion has six levels, from zero to five, and each level above zero needs an evidence link. A missing level scores zero and reads as a scoring statement, such as “No credit for inventory tracking”. It never reads as a flat claim that the product lacks the feature. A scorecard such as QuickBooks Online in detail shows every criterion with its level and its evidence.

Prices the vendor publishes

Pricing transparency credits only prices the vendor itself publishes. A price that appears on a marketplace or a review site can be stated as a fact, but it earns no credit.

Ties

When two scores tie, the higher pricing transparency level goes first, and after that the order is alphabetical. Payment is not an input. Listing options for vendors never change a score.

Where the scores show up

Every software scorecard and the services section carry the full breakdown.

Every ranked list orders its tools by score, and choosing between QuickBooks and Xero shows how two scores differ criterion by criterion.
